How much does commercial solar cost in Wales in 2026?

Commercial solar PV pricing in Wales has settled into a tighter range in 2026 than it was even 18 months ago. The supply-chain volatility that characterised 2022 and 2023 has largely unwound, panel and inverter stock is stable, and DNO connection times through NGED for G99 Type A applications are consistent at 6 to 8 weeks for systems up to 1 MW.

Installed price ranges in 2026

Based on FLD commercial quotations across South Wales rooftop PV in the last twelve months:

  • 30 to 50 kWp: approximately £950 to £1,050 per kWp installed
  • 50 to 150 kWp: approximately £850 to £950 per kWp
  • 150 to 500 kWp: approximately £750 to £850 per kWp
  • 500 kWp to 1 MW: approximately £650 to £800 per kWp

These figures assume SolarEdge panel-level optimisation, tier-1 panels (Trina Vertex or JA Solar DeepBlue), and standard pitched or flat-roof mounting. Complex sites involving structural reinforcement, long DC cable runs, or LV distribution upgrades sit at the top of each range.

Worked example: 250 kWp factory rooftop

A representative 250 kWp system on a Port Talbot or Bridgend manufacturing rooftop:

  • Installed cost: approximately £200,000
  • Annual generation at 950 kWh/kWp: 237,500 kWh
  • Self-consumption at 75%: 178,125 kWh at 30p saved = £53,438
  • Export at 25%: 59,375 kWh at 12p SEG = £7,125
  • Year-one benefit: £60,563
  • Simple payback: 3.3 years
  • Post-tax payback with 100% Annual Investment Allowance: 2.4 years

What is and is not included

A compliant FLD commercial solar quotation includes the full DNO G99 Type A application package, MCS certification, BS 7671 testing, SolarEdge monitoring portal configuration, panel-level warranty registration, and a single NICEIC Approved Contractor sign-off covering the whole installation. It does not include structural engineering reports if required, roof refurbishment, or HV transformer upgrades.

Finance options

Three routes are now standard for commercial buyers in South Wales: outright purchase with AIA relief, asset finance over 3 to 7 years, or a fully-funded Power Purchase Agreement where we install at zero upfront cost and the client pays for the generated electricity at a fixed unit rate below grid.
