Domestic solar Carmarthen: SA31 market town housing, Johnstown payback and SP Manweb guide

Carmarthen is the county town of Carmarthenshire, and the SA31 postcode covers the town and its immediate residential hinterland. The solar yield at SA31 runs at 955 to 960 kWh/kWp — the Carmarthenshire inland yield benefits from lower cloud persistence on the drier north-Carmarthenshire airstream.

Johnstown semi-detached payback

Johnstown, north-east of Carmarthen town centre, is the largest residential area in SA31, carrying a mix of interwar and post-war semi-detached with predominantly south-facing rear pitches. A 4 kWp south-facing Johnstown semi at 957 kWh/kWp generates 3,828 kWh annually. At 38% self-consumption, year-one benefit: approximately £715. On £6,900 installed cost, simple payback: 9.7 years.

A48 new-build corridor

Pensarn and the A48 east of Carmarthen town has seen consistent new-build activity. For A48 corridor purchasers, FLD advises at exchange rather than completion, enabling cable conduit to be built into the property before plastering — saving approximately £400 to £700 in retrospective installation costs.

SP Manweb DNO timelines

Carmarthen SA31 falls within the SP Manweb distribution network. G98 notification for domestic systems up to 3.68 kW is submitted by FLD on the homeowner’s behalf. For systems above 3.68 kW, G99 Type A approval timelines at SA31 currently run at 14 to 20 weeks. FLD initiates the G99 pre-application at survey stage, running the DNO process in parallel with equipment procurement to avoid delays.

Rural Tywi Valley

Abergwili and the Tywi Valley villages — Nantgaredig, Pontargothi — represent a rural domestic catchment adjacent to SA31 with larger roof areas and better sky exposure than town-centre terraces. For unshaded rural properties, standard string inverter specification is appropriate rather than defaulting to SolarEdge.

Welsh-language service

Carmarthen is among the most Welsh-speaking towns in Wales. FLD provides bilingual quotations, survey notes and commissioning certificates for SA31 clients as standard.
