Domestic solar Bridgend: CF31 and CF32 payback, Coity and Pencoed semi-detached guide

Bridgend’s residential catchment across CF31 and CF32 is one of the more straightforward domestic solar markets in the FLD portfolio. The town sits at the lower end of the Vale of Glamorgan plateau, with a yield baseline of 955 kWh/kWp — slightly above the inland South Wales average, reflecting coastal proximity and open sky exposure.

CF31 town centre terraces

The Nolton Street and Wyndham Street terrace zones carry the standard South Wales Victorian terrace solar challenge. SolarEdge panel-level optimisation recovers 8% to 12% of annual generation compared with string inverter baseline — worth approximately £90 to £135 per year on a 4 kWp system at 28p/kWh. FLD specifies SolarEdge as the default for Bridgend town-centre terraces.

Coity and Bryntirion: commuter semi-detached

Coity and Bryntirion carry 1960s and 1970s semi-detached with south and south-west facing rear pitches dominating the estate layouts. A 4 kWp south-facing Coity semi at 955 kWh/kWp generates 3,820 kWh annually. At 37% daytime self-consumption, year-one benefit: approximately £716. On £7,000 installed cost, simple payback: 9.8 years.

Adding a 7.5 kWh battery raises self-consumption to 61%, year-one benefit to approximately £900, and combined payback on £12,800 to 14.2 years.

Pencoed plateau

Pencoed and Felindre in CF35 sit on the plateau south of Bridgend, with better sky exposure than valley-floor Bridgend. A 5.5 kWp south-facing Pencoed detached at 958 kWh/kWp generates 5,269 kWh annually. At 52% self-consumption, year-one benefit: approximately £1,080. On £9,100 installed cost, simple payback: 8.4 years — one of the better residential paybacks in the Bridgend catchment.

Laleston CF32 coastal fringe

Laleston in CF32, between Bridgend and Porthcawl, carries detached and semi-detached rural residential with a yield of 960 kWh/kWp. The absence of valley shading makes SolarEdge selective rather than default here.
