The challenge

The challenge

The recycling plant sales shop is a customer-facing modular building set on an operational Swansea recycling plant site. That operational context is the difficulty. Waste and recycling plants run heavy plant movements — front-end loaders, skip lorries, compaction equipment — on tight circulation routes, and electrical works had to integrate into that environment without disrupting throughput. The modular building construction also meant first-fix had to be coordinated with the unit manufacturer so that supply entries, containment routes and distribution board positions were designed in before the units were craned into position.

Our solution

Our solution

FLD coordinated directly with the modular-building manufacturer to design first-fix routes into the units at factory stage, avoiding later remediation. On site, installation was staged around live plant movements with strict permit-to-work coordination with the recycling plant supervisor. LV supply was taken from the main site distribution with correctly-rated protection and fault-current assessment. Structured cabling, EPOS power and card-reader circuits were run cleanly with dedicated containment. Emergency lighting was zoned for the customer-facing retail space and staff back-office, and fire alarm detection was interfaced to the site-wide BS 5839 network. Final commissioning was completed ahead of the public opening date.

The result

The result

Modular sales shop handed over on the scheduled public-opening date. The unit has been trading continuously since, with zero electrical callbacks during the defects period and clean annual EICR inspections since commissioning.
