The challenge
The steel-container modular casings were already situated and operational on site when the solar scope was commissioned. The installation had to be engineered onto live, in-use units on a working waste recycling plant, with no option to take the casings offline or move them.
Our solution
The installation was designed and programmed to accommodate the live operating hours of the waste recycling plant. Rooftop access, panel delivery and crane lifts were phased around operational shifts and plant movements to keep the recycling throughput running. 128 Trina 395W panels were mounted across the six steel-container casings on a non-penetrative fixing system, with a single Solis 50 kW string inverter and cable routing designed around the existing operational envelope.
The result
A 50 kW rooftop solar array commissioned onto live modular casings without stopping waste recycling operations. Annual generation of 48.06 MWh delivers 10.74 tonnes of CO2 savings per year — equivalent to 493 trees planted. Payback 3.5 years against a £45,000 capital cost, with a projected lifetime ROI of £300,000.
Factory, warehouse and commercial rooftop solar from 30 kWp to 1 MW across Swansea, Cardiff, Newport, Pembrokeshire and the wider South Wales region.
