The challenge
Rainbow operates from a large commercial premises with a standing-seam metal roof across two elevations — an excellent solar substrate, but one that requires the right bracket system to avoid voiding the roof manufacturer's warranty. The brief was to maximise generation across both elevations, hit a sub-3-year payback, and use a non-penetrative mounting method that preserved roof integrity.
Our solution
FLD deployed a 337 kW SolarEdge Technologies system using 665 Trina 500W panels mounted on Clenergy standing-seam brackets across both roof elevations. The Clenergy brackets clamp directly onto the standing seams without penetrating the roof skin — preserving the warranty and the building's watertight integrity. SolarEdge inverter technology delivers per-panel optimisation, which matters on a dual-elevation install where each side receives different irradiance levels throughout the day. A G99 connection was coordinated with the DNO ahead of panel delivery.
The result
Estimated annual solar production of 246.17 MWh. Annual CO2 savings of 47.61 tonnes — equivalent to 2,186 trees planted. Estimated lifetime ROI approximately £1 million against a 3-year estimated payback. The centre stayed open for members throughout the installation.
Factory, warehouse and commercial rooftop solar from 30 kWp to 1 MW across Swansea, Cardiff, Newport, Pembrokeshire and the wider South Wales region.
