Domestic solar Milford Haven: SA73 waterway housing, LNG workforce households and Celtic Freeport growth

Milford Haven’s residential character is inseparable from its industrial context. The majority of the SA73 workforce is directly or indirectly connected to the Dragon LNG, South Hook LNG and Valero refinery operations — creating a domestic solar market with above-average household income, technical literacy, and environmental awareness absorbed from professional decarbonisation contexts.

SA73 yield: the waterway premium

The PVGIS baseline for Milford Haven SA73 runs at 985 to 995 kWh/kWp. The Haven waterway’s south-facing exposure gives many SA73 residential properties strong solar conditions with unobstructed southern horizon views over the waterway.

Town grid payback

Milford Haven’s north-south road orientation produces south-facing rear pitches on the majority of properties in the core residential grid. A 4 kWp south-facing SA73 town-centre property at 988 kWh/kWp generates 3,952 kWh annually. At 40% daytime self-consumption, year-one benefit: approximately £752. On £7,000 installed cost, payback: 9.3 years.

LNG workforce households: the technical context

A significant proportion of Milford Haven households include at least one member working in LNG terminal or refinery operations — a professional context where decarbonisation language is familiar. For technically aware SA73 clients, FLD provides more detailed system design documentation: SolarEdge monitoring app access, PVGIS generation curve data and battery optimisation settings.

Celtic Freeport residential growth

The Celtic Freeport designation is expected to generate significant new employment in the offshore wind supply chain. New-build workforce housing will be built to current Part L standards with solar-ready specification. FLD advises new-build purchasers on solar installation at the point of exchange before internal fitting out.

Battery storage and waterway grid

Town-centre SA73 properties benefit from the higher grid reliability of the LNG terminal infrastructure area. Rural properties in the SA73 peripheral area — Dale, Marloes — share rural grid resilience considerations and are specified with blackout-rated batteries by default.
