Domestic solar Haverfordwest: SA61 Atlantic yield, conservation planning and SP Manweb guide

Haverfordwest is the county town of Pembrokeshire. The SA61 postcode’s domestic solar market has a yield advantage many residents are unaware of: the PVGIS baseline runs at 985 kWh/kWp — materially higher than any inland South Wales location and comparable with the best Atlantic-exposed coastal sites.

SA61 yield: the Pembrokeshire premium

The 985 kWh/kWp yield advantage over a Swansea installation (950 kWh/kWp) generates approximately 140 kWh more annually on a 4 kWp system — worth £39 per year at 28p/kWh, or approximately £975 over 25 years. Simple payback for a Haverfordwest installation is approximately 0.5 years faster than the equivalent system at Swansea.

Conservation area: Castle Square and St Mary’s

Haverfordwest’s historic core is within a conservation area administered by Pembrokeshire County Council. Prendergast and Portfield, the main residential areas adjacent to the town centre, sit outside the strictest conservation designations. In-roof integrated solar is the standard FLD specification for conservation area residential properties.

Prendergast semi-detached payback

A 4 kWp south-facing Prendergast semi at 985 kWh/kWp generates 3,940 kWh annually. At 38% daytime self-consumption, year-one benefit: approximately £743. On £7,000 installed cost, payback: 9.4 years. The SA61 yield premium shortens payback by approximately 0.5 years compared with the same installation at Swansea.

SP Manweb DNO: west Pembrokeshire

Haverfordwest SA61 falls within SP Manweb. G99 Type A approval timelines at SA61 currently run at 16 to 22 weeks — among the longer SP Manweb timelines in the FLD coverage area, reflecting the rural network infrastructure in west Pembrokeshire. FLD initiates SP Manweb pre-application at survey stage for all SA61 systems requiring G99 approval.

Battery resilience

Rural west Pembrokeshire grid supply has above-average interruption frequency due to long single-circuit distribution lines. Blackout-rated battery storage is FLD’s default specification for peri-urban SA61 properties on rural circuits.
